Jerry V. Journeay
Jerry was born January 31st 1944 in
Oakland California, and was educated in the Oakland Public
Schools. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army from
1961 through 1968. While on active duty he served two tours
with the 101st Airborne Division, one with the
10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and with
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mobile Communications Command,
Washington, DC. He resigned in 1968, and went to work for
Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. During his telephone
career he worked for AT&T, Pacific Bell, the Telesis
Corporation, and in 2000, retired
from Southwest Bell Corporation as Regional Manager – Corporate
Security. While on rotational assignment to the AT&T
General Departments in New Jersey, he joined the Army Reserves,
and retired from the Military Intelligence Corp in 1999
with over 25 years of combined service. Jerry met his wife
Barbara on his first tour of duty at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and
they have been married since January of 1965. They have
two daughters, Mary and Michelle (Donavon), and two Grandchildren,
Jessica (7) and Ryan (4).
Jerry was raised in Foothill Lodge
564, now Island City #215 in 1973, joined the Oakland Scottish
Rite and Aahmes Shrine Temple in 1974. He was Master of
Foothill Lodge in 1978, and joined the Aahmes Past Masters
unit in 1979. Jerry has been Secretary of Island City Lodge
from 2005 to present. He served the Grand Lodge of CA.
on the Widows and Homes Endowment Committees from 1999
through 2004. He and Barbara joined the Order of the Eastern
Star in 1996, and he has been Worthy Patron four times,
and will be again in 2010. He has served on several Grand
Chapter Committees, and in 2002 served as Grand Chaplain
of the Grand Chapter of CA. In the York Rite of Masonry,
he is a Past Commander of Oakland Commandery #11, Knights
Templar, Past High Priest of Oakland Royal Arch Chapter
#36, and is the 2009 Illustrious Master of Oakland Council
#12, Cryptic Masons of California. He is a member of the
Grand York Rite of California Membership Committee; the
Allied Masonic Degrees, Bay Cities Council #164; the Arthur
McBain York Rite College, and the National Sojourners,
General Morrill W. Marston Chapter #413.
